When does a protest become a riot? According to the French protests, the astrological answer may be when Libra in in the first house. The 2026 student protest began at Antoine-de-Saint-Exupéry in Créteil. Named for author of The Little Prince the rejection of all things royal has been the result. Mercury Oppose Saturn
The chart that of the protest has as its transits the date of the closing of the last French election. The Libra Mercury opposition to the retrograde Aries Saturn lies along the government’s important lunar nodes. Saturn is also square Ceres. The French government, Saturn, has a resource issue, Ceres, and the young students, Mercury, oppose its actions.
Saturn lies at the north node. I view the nodes as a factory where the north node is where raw material is taken in and consumed in production of new goods. The south node is where those finished goods are shipped out. They work in concert. The government and its Arian actions are being consumed and finished Libran thoughts about justice and money are being produced. Venus the chart ruler is heavily involved in this process but she is blocked by Pluto with help from Neptune.
It is hard to say what might ultimately be the result. The two obvious release points do not have existing planetary actors to take up the necessary actions. Instead transits will likely play a large role. With the Venus retrograde, Mercury may be the first to end up on the Sabian symbol “a military marching band”. Although the Moon could certainly be the actor prior to that. That suggests the military in the streets.
The other answer is in Taurus and will likely be more in play during their next elections. That Sabian symbol is “an Indian woman selling beads”. Simplification. The Cancer Ceres and Scorpio Venus. Possibly household resources and shared money. Taxes? The government is blocked by the resources and Venus is blocked by the Aquarius Pluto. The French seem tapped out. Something has to give.
For most modern nations, the obvious answer to this type of crisis is blocked. The Capricorn Juno is blocked by Vesta. It is Juno who usually musters the resources for the government and operates the mint. Some of this riot and protest could be solved if the French controlled their own currency. Juno could fire the printing press up and pass an inflation tax onto the people generally. The European Union could bail France out by doing the same to the entire Eurozone.
No matter how blocked the obvious avenues are that Aries-Libra nodal axis is producing those new Libran thoughts in the first house. Every day, urban people and young people are forming those thoughts. They stand on the battlefield and action oriented first house. Either on the streets or watching from their apartments above. The new French elections are scheduled for April 18, 2027 and on that day the Aries Saturn, Juno and Mercury are conjunct with Ceres squaring all three. They sit on the protest Pallas. Wisdom.
Juno and rejuvenation is the interesting recipe mix. Restoring the Franc could be in store with this one. Juno is the special councillor of state and she manages the mint. The new Mercurial ideas that are forming all over France are now conjunct the Saturnian state and Juno sits between them. Venus is in Pisces which could be dissolution of money. The Euro.
This is something that is very Aquarian. Pluto is now transiting Aquarius and that leads to masses of people and groups. The streets of Paris filled with protest and riot is a very Aquarian picture. The Eurozone began as a collection of states, a group of states, but it has increasingly become Capricorn under the previous transit of Pluto. Bureaucracy. Brussels. Brussels is a city but it is now spoken of as an entity. The European Union has become a stand alone government. Will the European Union become more Aquarian? Through this transit it should but it is not clear that it has the capacity to do so. It has already lost Britain who never adopted the currency and, if France leaves the Euro even if it stays in the Eurozone, it will hardly find that a simple transition. In defiance of the new Aquarian energy it has recently put its heavy handed Capricorn approach on Romanian elections and now Polish judges.
Aquarius is the response to Capricorn. Rebellion against the father. Against authority. Against government. It may be feckless and ideal driven and its effect Piscean dissolution but it does shake things up. The wake of the airplane is Aquarius. A temporary structured but ultimately ephemeral effect. For all the ideals of Aquarius, it is not a beginning. It doesn’t stick to itself. It is air temporarily still structured. It is associated with retirement for a reason. It is not the beginning of a new system, it is the ending of an old.
